Emma is a 13-year-old spider monkey who lives at Bethsaida Farms in Vinton County, Ohio. Her owner, Cy Vierstra, cares for a menagerie of native and exotic animals on his land, where he has constructed specialized housing for each critter and offers educational visits to the public. Vierstra is one of the plaintiffs fighting to stop Ohio Senate Bill 310, which puts strict regulations on exotic animal owners in the wake of the Zanesville animal disaster of 2011 during which more than 50 animals had to be shot after their suicidal owner let them loose in Zanesville, Ohio.
